December 13/December 14

Year 11 - It's so nice that we could spend this time together before our holiday break.

Diary Dates - Last IT class is either January 31 or February 1.

Therefore, you have 4 weeks to complete the Design Folder of Documentation, Plan (flowchart), Create, and Evaluate. That should be plenty of time.

Have a wonderful holiday no matter which one you celebrate!

December 11

Year 11
To begin class we will have a guest speaker;-) Ms. Odelson, our librarian, will deliver a lesson period 1 and period 5 on citations and data bases. This will be good information for you to have and we are lucky to have someone with her expertise to guide us through these topics.
Next:

If you have finished your updates, please continue with the flowchart - it the Plan portion of the design cycle (Criterion C).

We are hoping to move into the Create mode after holidays. This is the part that everyone has been waiting for. Your designs were terrific - so I can't wait to see the finished product.

If you need assistance, I'm here;-)

Remember NO: games, facebook (or other social networking), YouTubes or other unauthorized sites. If you have a headset you MAY listen to music.

Dec 6/7

Year 11
Remember if you choose to bring up the grade of your Investigation and Design, you have until December 13 to do so.

Otherwise, continue to the flow chart.

Here is a Year 10 example of a swim lane flowchart:

December 4

Year 11 - Wow! What a week. You should have finished your Investigations and Designs. I have given you "provisional grades" for each of these (Criterion A and Criterion B). You can ask me what the grade is. You then have until December 13 to bring up that grade. End of story . . .

I am not completely thrilled by your efforts. I have read your investigations and found that there are many lapses. I was somewhat disappointed . . . But not to worry, I feel that in retrospect I need to offer you more encouragement and support. Therefore, I will be taking a more active role in supervising your online activities.

Go back through your Investigation and make sure that it is properly referenced. The IBO has standards that you must adhere to. Your Design Folder must be one (1) document, not a number of pages collected somewhere inside your folder on the school's server.

*Remember - this is a work environment and we must leave games and social networks behind during class time.

Now let's settle down and work on the Plan segment of your document..

Year 11

Even though your project will continue into the new term (Term 2) and I will be lucky enough to enjoy your company until February 6, we must still think of grades for this term.

I will grade you for Criteria A (Investigation) and Criteria B (Design) in the next week.

If you have any questions concerning this matter, please raise your hand;-)

November 13

Year 11 - Please continue working on the Design segment of your project.

This is exactly what you need to do to be successful:

Design <>

• Produce at least three possible site designs and describe site structure, colour scheme, page layout, etc. You may include rough sketches of how each page in the site may look
• Choose one final design and justify your choice by comparing how closely the design matches the completed Website Design Specification

Moderation Report

Remember according to the IBO (Interntional Baccalaureate Organization):

  • It is imperative that students complete ALL tasks.
  • When investigating it is sometimes appropriate to quote facts/information from the internet, however, the work must be referenced AND must contain further personal analysis.
  • Your bibliography (references) whould include the website name, URL, and the date that you visited the site.
  • The student MUST evaluate his/her plan.
  • The student must provide evidence of testing of the product/solutions created. (If not, levels awarded can not be higher than level 1).
  • Include visual representations of the process of creation of the product/solutions.
  • Describe a test to evaluate the product/solution against the design specification from the investigation stage, one that they can refer back to in the evaluation.

October 11-12

Year 11

We will continue with the Investigation.

Remember, it's not the product, but the process that we are concerned with.

October 9

Further Investigation . . .

Also, according the the Middle Years Programme moderation report (dated June 2007) it is important to:
  • FINISH the project and get it online
  • evaluate your performance along the way
  • cite references using MLA style
  • use dates when referencing
  • include website name (not just url)
  • provide evidence of testing the product (maybe an online survey would work here)

A former top administrator of the Camden campus of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey gave passing grades to unqualified students, potentially endangering patients, according to a federal monitor’s report released yesterday. In the report, the monitor, Herbert J. Stern, wrote that an inquiry had confirmed allegations against the administrator, Dr. Paul R. Mehne, who was the associate dean for academic and student affairs at the university’s Robert Wood Johnson Medical School campus in Camden since 1995. Dr. Mehne was suspended with pay in June and then retired at the end of the month. A telephone call to his home was not returned yesterday. The university has since made changes to increase oversight of the Camden campus, said Anna Farneski, a spokeswoman for the university.
